Vendor Dream Team = Dream Wedding

So, I'm sending a copy of a recent wedding to my girl Marcy Spirito of MLS Studio because she was the photographer of the day. It struck me that this is an important component of your day that any of you yet-to-be-weds should keep in mind.

We are big on "vendor love." Now, we're not slutty... (LOL)...we don't just love everybody. We have HIGH standards. But, no matter what the case may be, we strive to support every vendor whose path we cross during the day for the sake of our #1 priority. No, that's not my next booking or my power trip...it would be...anyone? The day and the memories for the bride and groom and their loved ones. We will support all other vendors no matter what, but not all earn our love.

Here's the note I'm sending to Marcy with the DVD: "I sure do hope to work with you again, Marcy! You were so thoughtful and supportive of our job - I think we worked great together. PLUS, it's an enjoyable work day when you can get along and have fun together, and I think that reaches to the families and the wedding party too!"

I really do believe that. If I'm videoing during the portrait session, I understand the stress associated with keeping it all going and on schedule. I'm going to offer to do anything I can to help that photog because his or her job is top priority at that moment. From my perspective, I so appreciate when a photographer tries to be mindful of what I need for a particular scene and to scope out where my cameras are, etc. If we "dance" well together and can enjoy our work day with each other, it creates a GREAT environment for special moments (that turn into MEMORIES) to happen and everyone can relax and join in on the fun. If attitudes and power struggles are present, everyone around can feel it and it taints the day.

When you meet with your photographers, videographers, coordinators, and even DJ's...ask them to talk about the other professional areas. NO, I'm not talking about gossip - I'm talking about philosophies of working together...describe a difficult situation you had recently... Ask who their favorites are in the other fields and why... See if the professionals talk about things like fun and teamwork and challenging situations that have been handled effectively for the sake of the couple. I think these 4 professions in particular create a core of "memory professionals" for your day, and it's imperative that they work as a team.
